Korean Language Examinations

TOPIK – Test of Proficiency in Korean

TOPIK is an official examination designed to assess Korean language proficiency among non-native Korean speakers. It evaluates language ability across different proficiency levels and may be relevant for higher education, scholarships, employment, and other purposes in South Korea.

Preparation focuses on helping candidates strengthen their Korean vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, and writing skills according to the requirements of their selected TOPIK level.

EPS-TOPIK

EPS-TOPIK is a Korean language examination associated with South Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS). It is designed to assess the basic Korean communication skills required by eligible foreign workers.

Candidates should confirm their eligibility and current EPS requirements through the appropriate official authorities before applying.

English Language Examinations

IELTS

IELTS evaluates English proficiency across Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Students applying to English-taught programs in South Korea may need to provide an accepted English proficiency score depending on their university and course requirements.

TOEFL

TOEFL is widely used by higher education institutions to assess academic English proficiency. Preparation focuses on Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing while helping candidates understand the examination structure and question formats.

TOEIC

TOEIC assesses English communication abilities, particularly in professional and workplace environments. It is widely recognised in South Korea, although its relevance depends on the institution, employer, or purpose for which the examination is being taken.

PTE Academic

PTE Academic is a computer-based English proficiency examination covering Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening. Acceptance varies between South Korean institutions, so candidates should verify their selected university’s requirements before booking the examination.

Cambridge English Exams

Cambridge English qualifications assess English proficiency across different levels. Students should confirm whether their selected South Korean university or institution accepts their particular Cambridge English qualification.

The examination depends on your university, program, and language of instruction. Japanese-taught programs may require Japanese proficiency, while English-taught programs may require an accepted English language examination.
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) measures Japanese language proficiency across five levels, from N5 to N1, with N1 representing the highest level.
Requirements vary by institution and course. Universities determine their own Japanese language proficiency requirements, so applicants should check the criteria for their selected program.
JFT-Basic assesses basic Japanese communication ability needed in everyday situations. It may be relevant to certain pathways and purposes in Japan.
EJU is designed primarily for international students seeking undergraduate admission to Japanese universities. Individual universities decide whether EJU is required and which subjects applicants must take.
English-taught programs may accept examinations such as IELTS or TOEFL as proof of English proficiency. Requirements and minimum scores vary between universities.
